The specialized cardiology medical consultation is the initial approach between the physician and the patient. It is an indispensable initial step that will make it possible to establish the cardiovascular status of the person who comes to the consultation.
The cardiology medical consultation is advisable to be performed on a regular basis in those who have a diagnosis of cardiovascular disease and the frequency with which it should be performed should be recommended by the treating physician according to the type and severity of the patient’s disease. Specialized medical evaluation is also indicated in those persons who present symptoms that suggest the presence of cardiovascular disease, such as chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath (at rest or with exercise), altered state of consciousness, muscle fatigue for no clear reason, frequent headache, among others. Likewise, people who do not present symptoms can also go to a cardiological consultation for a preventive check-up to establish their cardiovascular status, especially those over 45 years of age, especially if they have any cardiovascular risk factor, such as smoking, obesity, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, high cholesterol and a family history of coronary heart disease at an early age.
Depending on the symptoms that motivate the consultation, the findings on interrogation and physical examination, the need for complementary diagnostic studies, if required, will be indicated.
If you are an asymptomatic person, the initial visit will allow us to know the health situation in which you find yourself and will have a basically preventive character. In those with cardiovascular disease, the nature of the consultation is both curative and preventive, aimed at improving survival and quality of life.
